Donut Cake Pops!!!

Cinnamon donut cake pops!

Cake pops are pretty easy to make. For these, I simply made 6 cupcakes using the Hummingbird vanilla cupcake recipe, and then mixed them in with cinnamon buttercream frosting!


For the cupcakes (makes 5-7)

  • 60g plain flour
  • 70g caster sugar
  • 3/4 tsp baking powder
  • 20g unsalted butter, at room temperature
  • 60ml whole milk
  • 1 small egg
  • 1/8 tsp vanilla extract

For the frosting:

  • 50g unsalted butter, at room temperature
  • 100g icing sugar
  • 1/8 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/2 tsp cinnamon powder

For decoration:

  • Baking chocolate
  • Sprinkles!


  1. Preheat oven to gas mark 4
  2. Put the flour, sugar, baking powder, salt and butter in a freestanding electric mixer with a paddle attachment (or use a handheld electric whisk) and beat on slow speed until you get a sandy consistency and everything is combined. Gradually pour in half the milk and beat until the milk is just incorporated.
  3. Whisk the egg, vanilla extract and remaining milk together in a separate bowl for a few seconds, then pour into the flour mixture and continue beating until just incorporated (scrape any unmixed ingredients from the side of the bowl with a rubber spatula). Continue mixing for a couple more minutes until the mixture is smooth. Do not overmix.
  4. Bake cupcakes for 15-17 minutes
  5. Once the cupcakes are cooled, crumble them with your hands or a masher
  6. Once you’ve made the frosting, mix the crumble with the frosting
  7. Roll the mixture into small balls. Flatten the balls slightly with the palm of your hands. Use the fondant tool with the round end, or the back of a teaspoon to make a whole in the middle
  8. Leave these cake pops in the fridge for an hour
  9. In the meantime, melt your chocolate
  10. Take the cake pops out of the fridge. Dip the end of your cake pop stick with melted chocolate and poke it into the cake pops. This will allow the stick to stay on the cake pop.
  11. Decorate your donut cake pops with chocolate and sprinkles! 🙂
